Richard Ussher has taken out the top spot for the fifth time in the 30th Speight’s Coast to Coast ‘Longest Day’ one-day individual competition, with a time of 11hr: 33min: 24sec.

Ussher finished with a convincing lead over Dougal Allan, who came in a valiant second, with a time of 11hr: 52min: 03sec.

Braden Currie crossed the finish line at Sumner Beach in third place after 11hr: 57min: 46sec.

“I only knew I had the fifth race in the bag when I crossed the finish line,” says Ussher. “You can never take it for granted – you must always remain focused.”

Ussher’s Wife Elina placed first among the women, finishing the Speight’s Coast to Coast ‘Longest Day’ one-day individual race with a time of 13hr: 25min: 24sec. Ussher placed second in last year’s Speight’s Coast to Coast.

In second place was Fleur Pawsey with a time of 14hr: 03min: 25sec and Rachel Cashin came in third with 14hr: 05min: 54sec.

One-day competitors set off from Kumara Beach on the West Coast at 6am. Over the entire day, they covered 254kms including 140kms of cycling, 36kms of mountain running and 67kms of kayaking.


Speight’s Coast to Coast 2012 Two-Day Competition

Nathan Jones from Woodend took out the first place with a time of 12hr: 20min: 00sec in the Speight’s Coast to Coast 2012 Two-Day Open Men’s Individual event. He was followed by Nathan Bell in second place with a time of 12hr: 26min: 22sec. Mark Beesley took out third place with a time of 12hr: 47min: 07secs.

The Women’s Two-Day Race was taken out by Toni Keeling. She finished with a time of 14hr: 20min: 22sec. Olivia Spencer-Bower (14hr: 32min: 21sec) and Shanel Cornille (14hr: 43min: 04sec) came in second and third place respectively.
