Bahrain Endurance call on Hawaii Gods

By Bahrain Endurance 13

The ‪Bahrain Endurance Team today respected island tradition asking the Hawaiian Gods for a safe journey on Saturday as they take on the Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona.

The blessing was conducted by cultural specialist Kamehameha School Hawaii, Mumu Keoni Kalawe Island.

The Hawaiian Islands are steeped in ancient legend, and perhaps one of the few who acknowledges the power of the gods of Kona is six-time Ironman world champion Mark Allen. After a seven-year losing streak—credited to horrible luck—Allen approached the 1989 Ironman World Championships with a new attitude.

In 1989, Mark Allen changed his approach to the Ironman World Championships. As well as relying on incredible ability and dedication, he also appealed to the Hawaiian Gods. Did it change his luck? Well, he took his first world title in an epic race.
