Two dates that all cycling fans should mark on their calendars: June 5th, 2016, and October 31st, 2015.

The first should be coupled with the location, Bormio, because it is precisely from here that the fifth edition of the 2016 Granfondo Stelvio Santini will start. The same location that last year saw the race coincide with the 50th anniversary celebrations of Santini Maglificio Sportivo, drawing 3,000 participants to enjoy themselves and suffer in equal measure on some of the most immortal climbs in the history of Italian cycling. For 2016, the competition falls on the first Sunday in the month of June.

The second date, October 31, marks instead the moment that entries for the Granfondo Stelvio Santini will officially be open. So no matter where the “climbers" find themselves registering for the event will take only a few clicks on the official website: www.granfondostelviosantini.it.

Advantages of subscribing now? Those who manage to register by March 31st will receive a registration fee of 50 euro, which will then increase to 65 euro until all 3,000 available places have been assigned. Moreover, those who register by the end of March will be certain of obtaining their official event jersey, produced by Santini in their required size, (booked during registration). And this year, for the first time, all the racers will have their race number customised with their name. A unique souvenir to pin on your bulletin board.

The last edition of the Granfondo Stelvio Santini saw 3,000 cyclists at the start, (more than double than in 2014). After analysing the heightened interest in the event it was decided to establish a limit on the maximum number of participants. “The logistic management of more than three thousand cyclists on the Stelvio, in case of bad weather for example, could pose a serious safety problem”, noted Mario Zangrando from US Bormiese. “…and in agreement with the management from Santini for the 2016 event we decided to cap the number of participants at 3,000”.

A truly international race, with over 40% of the participants from last year coming from abroad, attracted not only by the ascent of the Stelvio and Mortirolo but also by the opportunity to spend a few days in this beautiful part of Italy tackling other climbs in the Valtellina region.
