Tickets on sale for UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Cambridge

By Sports Media NZ

Cycling New Zealand is confident of strong public interest when tickets go on sale today (Friday) for December’s UCI Track Cycling World Cup.

It is the first time a World Cup has been staged in this country, one of three global events that qualify nations for the world championships and the 2016 Rio Olympics. It will also be the first time that the public will see the current world champion Team Pursuit and the 2014 world champion Team Sprint combinations in action at home in a full scale international event.

The event, which runs from 4 – 6 December (including the qualifying day) at the Avantidrome in Cambridge, is likely to attract up to 600 competitors, staff, officials and media from over 40 countries.
It will be the biggest track cycling event staged in this country following the Junior Track World Championships in Wanganui in 1983 and Invercargill in 2012 and follows the successful staging of the UCI BMX World Championships in Auckland in 2013.

General tickets open to the public on Friday 21 August, but a limited pre-sale for Cycling New Zealand members has already seen pre-sale allocations for Saturday night exhausted, and significant uptake for other sessions.

“With the release of general tickets on Friday we are confident there will be plenty of uptake in the remaining tickets,” said Cycling New Zealand CEO, Andrew Matheson.

“Top quality international track cycling is not seen often in this country and never before to this level, especially in such an important lead-up to an Olympics.

“With this early demand and the chance to see our Elite Riders at home of the first time at this levelwe hope to see a full house for each of the five sessions.”

Tickets are priced from $15 per adult and $5 child (16 and under) for the qualifying session on Friday through to between $35 to $80 for the evening sessions on Saturday and Sunday.
