Barfoot & Thompson backs ASB Auckland Marathon

By Sports Media NZ

Iconic Auckland-based real estate company Barfoot & Thompson is putting their name behind one of the country’s iconic sporting brands, the ASB Auckland Marathon.

The company will become the naming sponsor of the Barfoot & Thompson Half Marathon across the Auckland Harbour Bridge on Sunday 1 November.

Already well-known company director Garth Barfoot has signed up for the Barfoot & Thompson Half Marathon and is hoping other athletes will join him on the day.

“I am looking forward to doing the race across the bridge in this city I love. I hope I can encourage others to start training and to join me for the run on the day.”

“We are a proud, longstanding part of Auckland and are looking forward to supporting an event that is iconic to Auckland,” said Garth.

“We are proud of our involvement in the Auckland community through events like this that celebrate togetherness and support.”

ASB Auckland Marathon organisers are delighted to have the backing of Barfoot & Thompson behind the event for the next three years.

“We are delighted to gain the support of Barfoot & Thompson to the event,” said Auckland Marathon Event Director, Jane Patterson.

“Sponsorship is a vital part of our ability to grow and develop this great event even further.

“Barfoot & Thompson provides more than just financial support. As a company they typify everything that is great about this city, they are passionate supporters of events here and they actively support sport, culture and those less fortunate through the Starship Foundation.

“We will benefit from their enthusiasm and passion as much as their fiscal support.”

It is a further extension of the company’s involvement in other key events in the city, such as the Barfoot & Thompson World Masters Games 2017, the Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup day, the Lantern Festival and Diwali, the festival of lights, not to mention Auckland rugby and the Blues.

The race, which dates back to 1936, attracted more than 16,000 participants last year.

Entries remain open for the 2015 ASB Auckland Marathon offering the ASB Marathon, the Barfoot & Thompson Half Marathon, the 12k Traverse, Heart Foundation 5k Challenge and the Kids Marathon.
