World Championship boost for new IRONMAN 70.3 Taupo

By IRONMAN 70.3 Taupo

Entry to next year’s IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in the Sunshine Coast (Queensland, Australia) has just got a lot closer for Kiwi triathletes.

Organisers have announced the special offer of an additional 25 qualifying slots for this year’s IRONMAN 70.3 Taupo to celebrate this inaugural event in New Zealand.

That will make a total of 75 qualifying places available from IRONMAN 70.3 Taupo on Saturday 12 December, the only New Zealand qualifying race for the 2016 World Championship.

It is the most qualifying places available from any of the 80-plus IRONMAN 70.3 races around the globe, which organisers say is a testament to more than 30 years history of the brand in New Zealand and in recognition that New Zealand had hosted the IRONMAN 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship for its first three years.

This is the first time that an IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship has ventured to the southern hemisphere with more than 3000 participants expected from 50 countries for the event on 4 September in Mooloolaba.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for New Zealand triathletes with a World Championship so close to us,” said IRONMAN Event Director Maria Walker. IRONMAN 70.3 Taupo is the only event in this country where you can qualify for the Sunshine Coast and to now receive a boost with an additional 25 spots is fantastic and a real incentive for all triathletes in this country keen to compete in a World Championship.”

To celebrate this announcement and give great incentive to lock in your race plans now, all IRONMAN 70.3 Taupo entries received over the next 3 days will go into a daily draw to receive 2 nights’ accommodation at the Hilton Lake Taupo to train throughout the year.

IRONMAN 70.3 Taupo will also provide an ideal opportunity for participants to test themselves over the course and race conditions for IRONMAN New Zealand in March.
