Success For Contact Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge

By Contact Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge

The Contact Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge celebrated success last night, winning the award for the Best New Zealand Owned Major Event at the annual New Zealand Association of Event Professionals (NZAEP) Event Awards, held at Shed 6 in Wellington.

The Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge was joint winner with the Auckland NRL Nines.

This prestigious award was judged on the events vision and innovation, national and international participation, stakeholder engagement, good event management practices, financial sustainability and economic impact.

Event Director Kay Brake was there to receive the award and commented, “To be recognised at a national level across multiple facets of the event is a testimony to the hard working core event team and the nearly 800 volunteers, along with the professionalism that is adopted by everyone involved with the event each year.”
The economic impact of the 2014 event to the Taupo region was over $7 million and the 1,200 international visitors who came to New Zealand specifically to take part in the event introduced $2.6 million of direct spending into the national economy.

Entries for this year’s Contact Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge to be held on Saturday 28 November have opened strongly, and with 18 different categories on offer, organisers are encouraging everyone to take part. Entries are available at www.cyclechallenge.com
