Gate wins sprint jersey, Frame impresses in RAS Tour of Ireland
By CyclingNZNew Zealand cyclist Aaron Gate has won the sprinters’ green jersey after the final stage of the An Post RAS Tour of Ireland today.
Gate, who rides for the An Post Chain Reaction UCI Continental team, finished in the peloton seconds behind the breakaway trio in the eighth and final stage into Skerries near Dublin.
Gate and the New Zealand endurance track team were competing as part of their road build-up towards the summer track season that includes the UCI World Cup at their home base in Cambridge in December.
Canterbury’s Alex Frame, one of the world champion team pursuit combination, led the way for the New Zealand team, taking out the sprint in the peloton to finish fourth in today’s stage won by Lithuania’s Aidis Kruopis who led a three-strong break that held on for the honours.

Austria’s Lukas Postlberger claimed the overall honours on general classification with Gate fifth 4:39 back, Frame eighth at 7:31 with his Kiwi teammates Nick Bain 16th, Nick Kergozou 44th and Luke Mudgway 95th in support of Frame.
Gate claimed the green jersey for the points competition by just one point with Frame’s finish sprint giving him third place, as well as finishing third overall in the under-23 category with teammate Bain fifth.
The performances pleased Cycling New Zealand men’s endurance coach Tim Carswell, with the team only arriving from New Zealand days before the competition in their first stage road race in almost 12 months.
The New Zealand endurance track team now head to their base in Belgium for further road racing as well as key track sessions at the Ghent velodrome.
