Gold for Kiwi Paralympian at IPC Shooting World Cup

By Paralympics New Zealand

Three-time ‪Paralympic‬ medallist Michael Johnson has won a Gold medal over night in the R4 (10m air rifle standing mixed SH2) overnight at the IPC Shooting World Cup in Turkey.

Johnson shot 211.2 taking him clear of Great Britain’s Ryan Cockbill (210.2).  The Bronze medal was won by Sinisa Vidic from Serbia (187.0).

Fellow Kiwi Phillip Skinner made his international debut and performed well placing 9th with 621.9 in the same event.

Malcolm Humm (PNZ High Performance Director) said, "This is a great result as this is Mike’s second IPC Shooting World Cup Gold this year. The plan was for Mike to gain as much finals experience as possible in 2015 under the new format and going into the ‪Rio 2016‬ Paralympic Games and he is consistently doing this.”  He continues, “It was great to see Phillip Skinner make his international debut in Turkey.  His 9th placing was a great result for a development athlete competing at his first World Cup.”

Action continues at the IPC Shooting World Cup with Michael and Phillipa competing in the R5 (mixed 10m air rifle prone SH2) on Friday 15 May.
