Paralympics New Zealand Head Performance Coach leaves behind strong legacy of sustainable Para-Cycling programme

Paralympics New Zealand (PNZ) announces the departure of Brendon Cameron, Head Performance Coach from the highly successful Para-Cycling programme.  Brendon Cameron has recently accepted the role of Women’s Endurance Coach with Cycling New Zealand.

Brendon commenced with PNZ in May 2009.  Since that time he has had an amazing impact on the New Zealand Para-Cycling programme. The programme has become the envy of other nations with much interest around the accelerated progression and success of PNZ Para-Cycling programme. The performance results punch well above their weight at World Championships and Paralympic Games. Under Brendon’s leadership the Para-Cycling programme has won a Paralympic title, three Paralympic medals, three World Records, six World Champion jerseys, and 25 World Championship medals.

Brendon is the only cycling coach in New Zealand history to have personally coached both a Paralympic and Olympic Gold medallist.

Fiona Allan (Chief Executive, PNZ) says, “We are thrilled to announce that whist Brendon is stepping down as Head Performance Coach for Para-Cycling that he will continue to coach and support the tandem pairing of Emma Foy and Laura Thompson (nee Fairweather) who are targeting the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. PNZ would like to acknowledge and thank Cycling New Zealand for their tremendous support and collaboration.”

Malcolm Humm (High Performance Director, PNZ)says, “Brendon has shown unquestionable passion, commitment and dedication.  I wish to publicly thank Brendon for the amazing contribution that he has made to the development of Para-Cycling in New Zealand during his tenure at Paralympics New Zealand.” He continues, “Not only has Brendon produced Paralympians and World Champions he has also ensured the long term success of the Para-Cycling programme with the numerous Para-Athletes that are now part of our development squads and working towards becoming future Paralympians.”
