GODZone team mates compete in Speight's Coast to Coast

By GODZone

As New Zealand’s premier adventure race GODZone prepares to get underway late next week in Wanaka, several high profile adventure racers were seen out and about competing at the Speight’s Coast to Coast over the weekend.

Nathan Fa'avae, captain of team Seagate who will be back this year to defend their GODZone title, competed in the longest day event at the Coast to Coast and just missed placing third, which went to Trevor Voyce.

Amongst the female competitors in the two-day event was Christchurch multisporter Sia Svendsen who competed as a tandem with Wanaka’s Joanna Williams.

Svendsen will be racing in GODZone as part of the Cure Kids team alongside Rob Nichol, Ian Jones and Ben Meyer. The team is fundraising for the important national charity.

GODZone patron Steve Gurney, who holds the record for winning the Coast to Cost nine times, says it was good to see GODZone competitors at the event.

“ We have 12 days to go before GODZone and for those athletes like Sia and Nathan who already have a strong base then this can be complimentary training. There are varying opinions but long as you’re careful about recovery then the Coast to Coast can be a great sharpener for what lies ahead in GODZone.”

Next Generation team mates Tim Farrant and Hamish Fleming also raced the Coast to Coast as did Dayne McKnight from team Bivouac Colts.

GODZone Race Director Warren Bates says it was a great effort by all competitors and an exciting prequel to next weeks adventure race.

“ It’s probably the last serious bit of training many of them will see before they head to Wanaka. You would definitely call that a thorough work out for some of our
most strongest contenders.”
