ADVENTURE RACING

GODZone Sells Out for 2017

By GODZone

Entries into GODZone, the world’s largest expedition adventure race, sold out within two hours of opening last week creating another record-breaking year for the event.

GODZone CEO and Race Director Warren Bates said teams worldwide rushed to be in the first wave of entry registrations.

“ It was fascinating to watch the entries come in every 2 or 3 minutes from around the globe which proves the race is achieving year on year growth in what is still a relatively niche sport market. Everyone is very keen to race in New Zealand.”

The event has two racing categories, GZ Pure and GZ Pursuit, and both are now at capacity for 2017.

“ We gave ourselves seven days to process all registrations and today teams are being notified if they have secured a racing spot. The spread is fantastic and the field will be a showcase of world class adventure racers, young Kiwi superstars and newbie teams experiencing their first multiday adventure event.”

Queenstown will host GODZone from the 25th February to 3rd March 2017 and Bates says the town is already buzzing with anticipation.

“ Queenstown is the official adventure capital of New Zealand and this event will be the largest adventure race to ever be held in the country and indeed the world.”

“It’s been brilliant to see a steady increase of teams signing up for the GZ Pursuit race bringing fresh blood into the sport. Last year we had All Black legend Richie McCaw complete his very first adventure race and I do think he has inspired quite a few weekend warriors to step up and have a go.”

GODZone is an official member of the Adventure Racing World Series and a qualifier for the AR World Championships.
