8848 Royal National Park Epic new cycling event coming to Australia in 2016

By Million Miles

The number 8848 is much more than the height in metres of the world’s tallest mountain, it’s also an all-new endurance event set to challenge 800 ordinary people to do something extraordinary – to climb the height of Mount Everest on one mountain, in one day and to share one mission.

That mission is raising funds for a very worthy cause to continue the research into how to beat cancer and support the great work of the Cancer Council NSW.

This event is the first of its kind anywhere in the world, the first mass-participation ‘Everesting’ challenge offering riders the shared experience of reaching their summit together.

What is Everesting?
The phenomenon of ’Everesting’ first emerged a few years ago when a group of intrepid Victorian cyclists now known as Hells 500 set themselves the challenge of climbing the height of Mt Everest (8848m) by riding up and down the same mountain, virtually non-stop, until the height of 8848m had been conquered. This has now become a global passion with thousands of people attempting the challenge.

The 8848 event takes the concept of ‘Everesting’ further by combining the spirit of the original challenge with a fully supported event format with team options making it more accessible to the broader cycling community.
