Huntly Half Marathon

By RUN NZ

NEW is the key word for NZ's Oldest standalone Half Marathon. Where some MAJOR changes have been made for 2016 and beyond!

There is a NEW COURSE, one that is expected to be FAST. It features a virtually flat single out & back route that follows the mighty Waikato River completely on sealed roads. This course will only be used for the Half Marathon participants and no other event distances. The 10k and 5k events will take in the trails around the beautiful Lake Puketirini.

There is a NEW DATE, which will see a move to the warmer month of March, the 20th March infact. This will provide better weather conditions to run in and is perfectly positioned 6 weeks prior to the Rotorua Marathon for those that need a Build Up race.

A very sharp field is already assembling for the 2016 iHeartRadio Huntly Half Marathon which is set to be lead by 2 time Huntly Half Marathon Champion and current NZ Marathon Champion Aaron Pulford who has already expressed a desire to go after Rex Wilson 30 year old Race Record, chasing him hard will be multiple Athletics New Zealand and Athletics Auckland Inc Champion Tony Payne, 2015 Huntly Half Marathon Runner Up Tom Moyes, Wellington Marathon winner Chris Wharam, the in form and ever consistent Ciaran Faherty who was 4th last year at Huntly, Kerikeri Half Marathon Runner Up and 4th at last weekends Round the Bays - Brad Luiten, Former Hamilton City Hawks & Huntly Half U/20 Champion David Cooper and Wellington Marathon Runner Up Mark Boyce who will all be looking to break the magical 1hr 10min mark.

The women's field may be slightly smaller but no less impressive, lead by the in form Rowan Marie Torckler who was 8th Overall at last weekends Round the Bays, 2nd at last years Auckland Half Marathon and is the Wellington Half Marathon Champion, will be a tight battle with fellow Hamilton City Hawks Team mate Alice Mason who is the current Christchurch Marathon Champion with another local in the form of Ironman triathlete Anna Cleaver also a potentially surprise package.
