Career Best for Adam Hall with Gold in World Cup Downhill
By Snow Sports New ZealandAfter winning his first World Cup Downhill medal (bronze) yesterday, NZ ski racer Adam Hall (Wanaka) decided he could do even better today and brought home the gold. The Cardrona NZ Adaptive Ski team is in Aspen, USA for the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Alpine Skiing World Cup finals.
With two events still to run – the Super-G on Thursday and Friday (US time) – Hall has so far collected gold in his preferred discipline of Slalom, bronze in Downhill (yesterday) and another gold in Downhill today. The win today puts Hall in third place for the overall Downhill World Cup title.
“I’m extremely happy with today’s performance,” says Hall. “It’s been a good team effort among all involved here, which has played huge dividends all week and I couldn’t have been happier.”

Strong gusts of wind and flat light created a challenge for the racers but Hall pulled out all the stops and crossed the line 0.12s ahead of Austria’s Markus Salcher and 0.20s ahead of Russia’s Alexey Bugaev.
Sit-skier Corey Peters (New Plymouth) was also on track to back up his gold medal winning performance from yesterday, running two seconds ahead of the rest of the field before a binding malfunction at the second to last gate forced him to kill his speed and nurse his way to the finish.
